ANATOMY OF FAILURE – 3

Using The Power Of Failure To Achieve Success

Too often we have been schooled, and taught over and over again that failure is a very bad thing. Most times when we hear the word failure2‘failure’, we automatically feel a bad taste in our mouths, and our minds can only conjure up bad that things happened to or to another person.

Yet, failure has tremendous power to propel anyone to success, if one can only take the time to do a good analysis of that failure, and then mine the gold from it for your future success

There are several ways you can perceive failure as a positive thing and we will look at this with some perspectives from some of the greatest and most successful human beings who have ever walked this earth.

  1. 1.     Failure Can Help You Eliminate Wrong Answers or Solutions

It is generally agreed that Thomas Edison invented the light bulb after he has had 1000s of heart-wrenching failures in his experiments.

Once, when someone interviewed Thomas Edison after another failed attempt, he smiled and spoke like somebody who really understood the power of failure. He said “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work’. When asked if he was discouraged, he shook his head and said. “I am not discouraged because every wrong attempt discarded is another step forward.”

Can you imagine how much motivated you would be if you simply consider every one of your failures as an exercise that helps you eliminate wrong answers as you search for correct solutions? Awesome I think!

  1. 2.     Failure Provides You With An Opportunity Restart More Efficiently

One of the great people who experienced failures several times and later became a legendary success, Henry Ford, once said, “Failure is only the opportunity to begin again more intelligently.” Sometimes we do things the wrong way, or stupid way and failure has a way of reminding us that we need to go back to the drawing board and think of better ways to accomplish long term success.

Henry Ford experienced failure many times but he persisted until he found the right answer and the efficient way to achieve his aims. After every failure, he would go back to his drawing board and look at what he did wrong, eliminate it and go for it again. Now we talk about his success with awe.

  1. 3.     Failure Will Teach You Humility

Sometimes when people only experience only consistent success, they tend to get arrogant and start believing they are better than everybody else around them.

This can ultimately be destructive without a healthy dose of failure to remind them that they are humans like everybody else. Failure often makes you stronger as a person in that sense. It makes you more human and more balanced to deal with the world and not be too full of yourself

  1. 4.     Failures will Teach You It Is Impossible To Please Everybody.failure

Nothing is more dangerous than someone with a messianic complex and who believes and his destiny to please or save everybody. Truth is, none of us can be the Messiah and we cannot please anybody. Failure teaches that in a hurry!

I used to love going out of my way to make everybody around me happy, including sacrificing everything I have, just to please others. After years of repeated rejection, betrayal and contempt from some of the same people I almost killed myself trying to please, I now know better.

That is one of the greatest powers of failure. My failures with some people showed me that only God can deal with all the complexities of human nature. You do your best and let God take care of the rest. Failure taught me that!

Bottom line here is that failure is not something to be dreaded to the point where you are paralyzed from action or give up on your dreams. Failure junction is a necessary bus-stop you must reach before you can ever achieve your destination of greatness.

Of course, the devil loves to tell you that since you failed once or twice before, then you can never hope to succeed again. I have seen many promising people in internet businesses, offline businesses and all walks of life give up because of a few failures along the way. That’s really sad. Failure has no real power but the one you gave to it!

You cannot give up. That is accepting the negative power of failure. Look at your failures again and smile at the rainbow just at its fringes. Use its power rather than succumbing to it!
